Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Advisor

Job description:

Reporting to the Director of QA, QC, and Continuous Improvement, the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Advisor will be responsible for the following tasks:

• Develop and implement health, safety, and environment (HSE) policies, procedures, and programs in compliance with legal requirements (CNESST, OSHA, ISO 45001, ISO 14001).
• Monitor regulatory developments, maintain certifications, and ensure the continuous improvement of HSE practices.
• Conduct inspections, audits, and risk assessments in the workplace, including at client sites if required.
• Implement risk prevention and control measures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Investigate incidents and accidents, analyze causes, and propose corrective actions.
• Monitor performance indicators (incidence rate, severity, etc.) and produce required reports.
• Organize and document HSE training (orientation, equipment safety, hazardous materials, emergencies) and develop awareness tools.
• Coordinate health and safety committee meetings and encourage employee participation.
• Represent the company at HSE meetings with the U.S. headquarters (in English).
• Plan and supervise evacuation drills, and keep the emergency response plan up to date.
• Ensure compliance of facilities, equipment, and practices.
• Provide safety advice regarding new equipment or buildings, in collaboration with the relevant parties.
• Manage business travel safety and HSE coordination plans for on-site operations.
• Represent the company before authorities and external partners (CNESST, insurers, auditors, etc.).
• Contribute to optimizing procurement processes by participating in supplier evaluations and integrating QHSE requirements into requests for proposals and purchasing decisions.
• Collaborate with the maintenance department to ensure workplace safety;
• Collaborate with headquarters to ensure the harmonization of HSE practices on an international scale.
• Support environmental initiatives (recycling, hazardous materials, sustainable practices).
• Perform any other related tasks as needed.

Requirements:

• College or university degree in occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene, or a related field;
• At least 3 to 5 years of experience in OHS, ideally in a manufacturing or industrial setting;
• Excellent knowledge of OHS laws, standards, and regulations in Quebec, particularly CNESST requirements;
• Knowledge of international health and safety standards, including OSHA and ISO 45001;
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask;
• Fluency in French and English, both spoken and written.
